Inter Milan want to offer Steven Gerrard a playing role until the end of the season

Do you take the reigns at MK Dons or head to Italy for one last swansong as a player with Inter Milan…?!

What a conundrum for Steven Gerrard, who’s also held talks with Liverpool about a role with the Academy.

The Independent have confirmed that Serie A giants Inter have been in touch with our former captain about a playing contract until the end of the season, when he’d likely hang up his boots once and for all.

Gerrard left LA Galaxy last week after the franchise lost in the MLS play-offs, but there’s no decision on his future just yet. He could retire and go into management, but plenty of clubs are giving him the chance for one last hurrah on the pitch.

Inter would be a glamorous, romantic option and maybe too difficult for Gerrard to turn down, considering the fact he never got the opportunity to play in one of Europe’s other top leagues during his peak.

MK Dons are currently toiling in League One, and it may be that taking that job would be a hiding to nothing. The easy option would be to rejoin Liverpool and work in a safe, enjoyable environment with Alex Inglethorpe for the Under-23s, but Gerrard only wants to return to Liverpool in a role where he’d actively help, not a symbolic one.

Expect an announcement on the legend’s decision in the next few weeks.
