Liverpool are still very much interested in Borussia Dortmund wonderkid Christian Pulisic and it seems Jurgen Klopp will not give up on his pursuit of the teenage American.
We had an unsuccessful bid for the 18-year-old in the summer with his German side adamant they wanted to oversee his development instead of cashing in, but this hasn’t put Liverpool off – who are lining up a hefty £25m bid for January.
This is according to Simon Jones in the Daily Mail, who suggests that the return of Marco Reus to fitness will push Pulisic down Thomas Tuchel’s pecking order.
With Coutinho out for six weeks and Sadio Mane heading to the AFCON in January, Liverpool’s attacking options suddenly seem less plentiful, especially coupled with Danny Ings’ season-ending injury and niggles picked up by Daniel Sturridge, Roberto Firmino and Adam Lallana.
Pulisic is similar to Coutinho in terms of his attributes. He’s small, quick, creative and likes to play one-twos in and around the box, so he’s a different mould to Mane and the conventional ‘winger’ we were expected to target in January.
In terms of talent, Pulisic is mind-boggling – but we’re not convinced £25m will suffice in this day and age.
