Liverpool XI v Sunderland: Henderson injury sees Lallana drop deep as Klopp goes for goals

Jurgen Klopp has named a very attacking lineup as Liverpool start 2017 at relegation battlers Sunderland.

With Jordan Henderson out after injuring his heel in the 1-0 win over Manchester City on New Year’s Eve, left-back James Milner captains the Reds at the Stadium of Light.

Hendo’s omission sees Adam Lallana drop into a midfield, alongside Emre Can and Georgina Wijnaldum, with Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Daniel Sturridge hunting goals further forward.

Liverpool should be confident of overpowering the Black Cats, who have only kept two clean sheets all season, with Hull and Swansea the only Premier League sides conceding more goals.

Philippe Coutinho, Joel Matip and Danny Ings are all ruled out through injury, causing Klopp to blend youth and experience on the subs bench.

Liverpool have beaten Sunderland on each of their last three visits to Wearside.
