What is it the kids used to say? Still a better love story than Twilight. Something like that.
The union of Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool has all the makings of a classic love story, in it’s own right. Since arriving at the club, Klopp has had an incredible impact on the confidence and the ability of players who seemed destined to struggle, with Dejan Lovren emerging as a prime example.
It was a difficult start to life at Anfield for the defender but he has come on a long way since the introduction of the manager and is now preparing to play a key role in Sunday’s Premier League clash with Manchester United at Old Trafford.
Whilst discussing Klopp with Liverpoolfc.com, he said: “We have a good talk before the game with him and he doesn’t need to motivate us, but with some kind of words he touches us in the heart.”
“We are [approaching] every game differently but he knows what he wants in these kinds of games, the big games.”
“In these derbies, you are ready to fight for everything. [Klopp is] a big part of the team, he’s one of the key people here.”
January marks a testing period for Klopp’s men with a packed schedule, injuries and Sadio Mane’s absence forcing the manager to make adjustments to his team.
If anyone is capable of rallying the players and ensuring they are up for the biggest game of the season this weekend though, then it is Klopp.
Sunday is the opportunity for Lovren and his teammates to rediscover their form after a couple of difficult weeks and remind everyone of why they are to be taken seriously.
