Huge boost for the spine of Liverpool’s team as key duo make it through full training

Good news is exactly what we needed heading into Sunday’s big game and that’s just what we have got.

Jordan Henderson and Joel Matip returned from injuries to make it through full training yesterday with the pair giving their teammates a much needed boost as they prepare to face Manchester United at the weekend.

The Liverpool Echo’s James Pearce reported: “Henderson has always targeted the clash with United for his return and as long as he suffers no adverse reaction over the coming days then he should start at Old Trafford.”

“Matip is also on the comeback trail having not played since last month’s 2-2 draw with West Ham at Anfield.”

“Klopp will assess his fitness levels but Matip is unlikely to be drafted straight back into the starting line-up at Old Trafford after five weeks out.”

We have missed both men dearly and will be immediately improved by their return, without question.

Having Henderson fit for the United game is vital if we are to stand any chance of coming away with something. He has transformed into a influential member of this team not only through his leadership but through his urgency on the ball and his hunger to make things happen.

The captain has been at the club long enough now to know what is required in a game of this calibre which is why his return is so significant.

Though he is unlikely to start, Matip’s recovery alone is something to be celebrated. His imminent return to action couldn’t come at a better time with Jurgen Klopp’s men facing their most challenging period of the season.
