Klopp assures no panic buys with wise and frankly brilliant transfer attitude

Jurgen Klopp has again recognised himself as the perfect manager to oversee this club’s transfer business after outlining his incredibly sensible approach to the January window.

Liverpool seem to have been linked with a move for a different player each day since the turn of the year yet Klopp has made it extremely clear that he is only interested in signing a player if they meet his very specific requirements.

In doing so, he reiterated just how difficult it is for any potential signing to break into the first team.

Speaking to Sky Sports in a Facebook live chat, he said: “If you tell us that the right player is now available for us, we would do it of course.”

“But I’m 100 per cent convinced that the things you do in the winter, you should only do when you would do it in the summer too. Everything else only solves the problem for a second, and a few days later you have another problem.”

“We cannot get any player – this team is too strong, this squad is too strong. We need players to make us better.”

“But, for sure, a lot of things will happen in the summer to strengthen our squad. But in this moment, if there’s the right player and we can get him, we will do it. If not, it makes no sense.”

New signings are always great. They generate excitement, they give fans a fresh outlook on what the rest of the season holds in store and they usually improve a squad. Some aren’t always necessary, though.

Panic buying isn’t Klopp’s style and that will become clear this month. He will already have had in mind a short list of targets who he feels would add to this team and if they fail to come off, expect him to be happy with what he currently has.

We stand by Klopp’s approach and remain confident in the players he has at his disposal, regardless of key men being absent.
