Liverpool are likely to buy two defenders this summer, providing two of the current squad depart…

With Mamadou Sakho a certainty to leave either this January or at the end of the season once a club pays his asking price, Times correspondent Paul Joyce reckons we’ll enter the market for a centre-back.

We’ve had problems in that area this term and also have Lucas, who Klopp uses as a central defender, potentially departing too.

“I think Liverpool will buy a centre-back in the summer given the Sakho situation, but Lovren has done well this season,” Joyce told the Times.

“If Moreno decides he wants to go for first team football, then maybe Liverpool go for a young left-back. Milner has done well.”

James Milner is currently doing excellently at left-back, but there’s long-terms doubts as to first the suitability of Alberto Moreno as his backup and secondly whether the Spaniard will be content with this role.

This term, he’s primarily played in cup matches or when Milner’s been injured – but me may not fancy this again in 2017/18.

Liverpool actually tried to sign Ben Chilwell, Leicester’s young left-back, in summer 2016, so it’s clearly a position the boss would consider bolstering.

At Empire of the Kop, we’d love to see another attacker in the form of a speedy inside forward. We’ve looked a much more devastating side with Sadio Mane on the flank and that kind of pace is rare in the squad.
