This was on the basis of an eighth placed finish in the Premier League and two lost finals in the EFL Cup and Europa League.

It looked like it was a wonderful decision during the first half of this campaign, with Liverpool riding high in the league and getting to the semis of the EFL Cup.

But after one win in ten, such an enormous contract extension seems premature.

“I like Klopp, but they lost two finals last season, so I’d be careful. I wouldn’t have given him a six-year contract. That’s absolute madness. They won’t win anything this year, and they may not finish top four,” he told the Sunday Times, reported in Eurosport.

So long as FSG are in charge though, Klopp’s the best manager in the world they could employ. This is because they don’t spend big money on transfers and demand the books to be balanced, and the German proved he can do this while being successful at Borussia Dortmund.

Let’s get one thing straight: the likes of Pep Guardiola and Jose Mourinho would be doing no better at Liverpool with the resources at Klopp’s disposal.
