Liverpool could solve left-back problem with Balotelli’s £22m team-mate

Liverpool have been watching Nice tear up Ligue 1 this term, and whichever scout was present must have been surprised to see Mario Balotelli do so well – considering his miserable tenure at Anfield.

But we were not in France to check out the controversial Italian and wonder what could have been, but to scout his team-mate Ricardo Pereira, the Portuguese international fullback.

Pereira is 23 and is currently enjoying the second season of a two year loan spell from parent club Porto.

According to multiple reports today, such as this one in the Express, Liverpool are considering a summer deal for the left-back and could pay his £22m release-clause. He’s actually played more at right-back this term for Nice, but is more renowned for his ability on the other flank.

Pereira is also being considered by Inter Milan, but with Liverpool using James Milner at left-back this term and severe doubts surrounding the long-term suitability of Alberto Moreno – it’s clear we need another for this position at the end of the season.

We’ve not seen much of Pereira, but he’s registered three assists and scored once this term, racking up very impressive passing and creative stats to boot.
