Bjorn Bezemer, Sadio Mane’s agent, has suggested Liverpool fought off competition from four other sides in the summer to clinch his client’s signature.
We ended up buying the 24-year-old Senegalese flyer for £34m, making him our second most expensive signing ever behind Andy Carroll.
Interestingly, many felt we overpaid at the time, but following the African’s 11 goals so far this term, there’s no longer any doubts regarding perhaps the best signing of the Premier League season.
“Sadio had five offers in the summer and financially all of them were good,” he told the Guardian.
“We wanted the right team, with the right coach at the right moment to arrive at the next level. That is the reason Sadio went to Anfield.”
We’re over the moon that we did seal a deal for Mane, who put in a breathtaking performance against Spurs on Saturday – scoring twice in the first-half to earn us a 2-0 win.
With 13 games left of the campaign, Mane’s already on 11 Premier League goals for the season – the most since Luis Suarez’s 31 in 2013/14.
He’s already doubled his value and will go down as probably our best transfer since Coutinho in 2013.
Keep up the good work, Sadio!
