Henderson names his three star Liverpool performers & why they nailed it v Spurs

Liverpool’s skipper Jordan Henderson held a players-only meeting on Thursday last week, two days before our crunch 2-0 victory over Spurs.

We were on the back of a miserable run, which culminated in a 2-0 defeat by Hull the weekend previous which saw us drop out of the top four having been Chelsea’s primary title challengers a month previous.

Henderson was phenomenal against Tottenham, as were his midfield partners Gini Wijnaldum and Adam Lallana, but Liverpool’s captain took time to praise the front-three – especially two goal hero Sadio Mane.

“Sadio was brilliant,” Henderson told the Echo.

“We created some really good chances early on. They couldn’t live with his pace in behind. With Roberto and Philippe too, the intensity was there.

“We had a good week’s training leading in and I thought we put everything we had worked on in training into the game and it worked perfectly.”

Mane’s brace puts him on 11 goals for the season, outstanding considering it’s his first campaign with us and he missed a chunk of games at the African Cup of Nations.

When he, Roberto Firmino and Coutinho are clicking, as they did against Mauricio Pochettino’s men, there’s few defences who can live with them.
