It would be nice, wouldn’t it – heading off to Spain for a warm weather break every February as part of your job…
Jurgen Klopp has taken his Liverpool squad to La Manga, where they’ll be until Sunday after the German decided to take his players away for a stint and prepare them physically ahead of the Premier League run-in.
There’s 13 games left of the season and we need to win the vast majority if we’re to finish in the top four.
But as well as it being a training camp to maximise fitness levels and increase tactical awareness, it’s a morale boosting exercise and an effort to bring the squad closer together.
Yesterday, James Pearce, who’s out in Spain with the Echo, claimed that following a six-a-side tournament, Klopp had the losing side jump in a freezing-cold plunge pool!
The unlucky players were Adam Lallana, Sadio Mane, Ragnar Klavan, Nathaniel Clyne and Kevin Stewart. The goalkeeper’s were rotated so got off lucky!
The winning team included Roberto Firmino, James Milner, Joe Gomez, Gini Wijnaldum, Connor Randall and Conor Masterson – a Northern Irish centre-back who’s just 17.
