Negotiations for Liverpool summer transfer already happening, confirms Klopp

Jurgen Klopp says the wheels are in motion in regards to Liverpool’s involvement in the summer transfer window…

We didn’t buy anyone in January, despite many fans and pundits feeling the squad was in severe need of a boost, but according to Liverpool’s manager – we’ll definitely be active come the end of the season.

“We are in talks with different people – players, agents, all that stuff,” Klopp told the ECHO.

“Not a lot of decisions have been already made at this point. Why should they at this stage?

“But we are on the way. At the end I’m sure we will have a really good squad.

“We already have a good squad and a few more good players will make it even better. There’s a good base.”

Klopp’s statement of ‘a few more good players,’ indicates we’re after limited numbers of high quality – exactly what we need.

With European football of some sort probably guaranteed, we’ll also need more bodies to alleviate injury crises and the fact Klopp’s style of football saps energy levels.

This term we rotated heavily in the cup competitions but the winter schedule still took its toll on the players.

Hopefully by 2017/18, the likes of Ben Woodburn, Ovie Ejaria, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joe Gomez and Sheyi Ojo will be considered genuine first-team squad options – after pre-season – so that’ll help boost us too.

We need wide attackers, central midfielders and probably a left-back, too. A centre-forward might not go amiss either.
