(Video) Liverpool U23s score via comical own-goal but fall to defeat after costly errors

It was a disappointing Sunday for Liverpool’s U23s as they fell to a 2-1 defeat against Derby County after conceding a 90th minute goal.

The senior team’s mid-season training camp in La Manga meant the club’s second string side were missing a host of key players such as the likes of Ben Woodburn, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Kevin Stewart and captain Harry Wilson.

There was another start, however, for 17-year-old Rhian Brewster who retained his place in the side after recently moving up from the U18s.

A catalogue of errors proved costly for both teams throughout but it was the away side that managed to snatch a win in the dying moments of the game.

The Reds had gone behind 10 minutes into the second half but equalised in peculiar fashion when Sven Karic’s mis-directed clearance from a corner sailed into the back of his own net.

The winner came when some sloppy play in midfield saw Derby win the ball back on the half way line, leading to Mason Bennett being put through on goal where he made no mistake with a low left-footed strike past Kamil Grabara in the Liverpool goal.
