Watching Coutinho try and fail to score Steven Gerrard’s Olympiakos half-volley goal shows just how difficult the skill is and how brilliant the goal truly was.
This is before analysing that we desperately needed a goal in the dying minutes of the game to avoid exiting the Champions League (which we would go on to win that season) at the group stages.
BT Sport headed to Melwood and tried to get our Brazilian talisman to recreate the iconic goal, but unfortunately, in four attempts, he couldn’t get the swerve to send the ball into the right-hand side of the net. He connected nicely on two occasions, but but went towards the left-hand side of the goal.
Without Gerrard’s goal that night, 13 years ago now, Liverpool’s history as a club would be entirely different.
