Big LFC news: Respected journo says Klopp might still buy Gotze, believing he can maximise Mario

Here’s a turn up for the books…

Despite the fact he rejected us for Borussia Dortmund last summer, Mario Gotze could become a Liverpool player after all.

According to Melissa Reddy of Goal, Jurgen Klopp is considering offering the 24-year-old World Cup winner a lifeline at the end of the season.

Her article claims Liverpool’s boss has other priorities, but that Gotze is on a shortlist because Klopp has complete faith in his world-class natural ability.

Gotze is out of action indefinitely due to a metabolic disorder, but before this struggled to even get into Thomas Tuchel’s side having switched from Bayern Munich in the summer. It was here under Pep Guardiola that his stock and form began to fall, and he’s arguably gone backwards since his teenage years.

Still, it was Klopp who made Gotze great and the pair still enjoy a close personal relationship.

If Klopp believes he can coax the greatness out of the playmaker then so be it; but we’re worried about Gotze’s injury record and the fact he rejected us initially.

On top of that, he possesses no pace or directness, the attribute our forward line most needs.

We only think Gotze will come into consideration if we miss out on more suitable, up and coming targets, like Julian Brandt, for example – who it was revealed by AnfieldHQ has a €17m release clause which can be activated in 2018.
