LFC update: Aubameyang, Keita, Lacazette & what happened with Draxler

Liverpool fansite AnfieldNation has done excellently to get an interview with James Pearce, in which they asked him about some of the players linked to Liverpool.

This summer is expected to be a big one in the window, with Jurgen Klopp’s current squad failing to compete adequately on three domestic fronts…

The German has a negative net spend since taking over, but we can’t imagine this will be the case come September – with LFC practically certain of at least some kind of European qualification.

Pearce though hasn’t really told us anything we don’t already know, stating that Champions League qualification is an absolute necessity if we’re to acquire our primary targets.

Having said that, the last time we were in the tournament, we bought Rickie Lambert and Mario Balotelli to replace Luis Suarez – so it’s no guarantee!

Of the players mooted below, Draxler has obviously already joined PSG and Aubameyang is an impossible target, but we could capture Lacazette and Keita in a perfect window…

Lacazette:

“There have been plenty of links and I’m sure he’s on LFC’s radar but if they are planning to bid for him I’m not aware of it.”

Keita:

“He’s been one of the most consistent midfielders in the Bundesliga this season so clearly LFC would be keen. The problem is that Leipzig don’t want to sell and there are also plenty of other big clubs hoping to lure him away.

“I’ve been told that Bayern Munich currently lead the race to sign him. To have any chance LFC would have to be in the Champions League.”

Aubameyang:

“Again, to have any hope LFC would have to be in the Champions League but I fear that La Liga is probably his more likely destination. He’s made no secret of his dream to play for Real.”

Draxler:

“I can only report things how I see it and Klopp was absolutely adamant – both with the microphones on and off – that he had been backed by the owners and that the money was there to spend in January. He just couldn’t get the targets he wanted.

“Klopp met Draxler but the player opted to sign for PSG instead. Yes, I think the huge wages on offer from PSG was part of it but also at the time they were still in the Champions League.”
