If he does this in public, we really hate to think what Neymar is saying in Coutinho’s ear during Brazil’s international fixtures at the moment…
The Barcelona ace speaks about our no.10 roughly every fortnight, and has obviously done so yet again today.
“A Premier League player that I would like to have in Barcelona is Coutinho,” he told Brazilian media, cited in the Daily Mail.
“I believe Philippe Coutinho is a player that would totally fit in Barcelona.”
It’s like clockwork.
Unfortunately for Neymar, Coutinho recently signed a bumper contract extension that makes him our second highest ever paid player behind Luis Suarez.
If Barca want him, which there is no indication they do, they’ll need to break the world-record transfer record for his services.
On current form, Coutinho isn’t worth that and there’s no way we’d consider selling our most marketable player anyway.
For us, the key is our 24-year-old returning from international duty unscathed and re-finding the form that earned him the contract in the first place.
We fully back him to do it. Sorry Neymar, unless you want to move to Merseyside, it’ll be some time before you’re team-mates at club level!
