Philippe Coutinho gave both Brazil and Liverpool fans a reason to smile last night as he scored with a wonderful strike to help his national side to a 3-0 win over Paraguay.
The forward teased Reds with the kind of touch of class that we haven’t seen from him in a Liverpool shirt for some time.
It came at a perfect time as well after it was announced that Adam Lallana had been ruled out for a month having picked up an injury while on international duty with England.
Coutinho has been far from his most deadly over the past couple of months yet some time on the pitch for his country could have sparked him back into form ahead of this weekend’s Merseyside derby.
He was arguably the Premier League’s star player during the first few months of the season and we will need him to replicate that kind of dominance if we are to stand any chance of securing Champions League football, especially with Lallana now ruled out.
It was the type of bursting, jinking run and clinical finish that we have missed seeing from him.
