We’re considering a bid for Max Meyer, writes Dave Maddock in the Mirror, whose contract runs out in 2018.
Schalke rated him at £45m in 2016 but could sell for a third of that sum as they could potentially lose another star on a free unless Meyer extends his deal.

The 21-year-old is very highly rated in his homeland, although he’s actually endured a pretty uninspiring season. Meyer has only scored once in the Europa League and once in the Bundesliga, failing to register an assist in 22 domestic appearances.
Meyer likes to play no.10, but has been deployed as a false-9 and on the left, where Coutinho currently plays for Liverpool.
Right now, Meyer wouldn’t improve our starting XI, although it’d be nice to have some added depth offensively.
In truth though we’d prefer his countryman Julian Brandt, whose much faster and provides more telling end product.
