With Adam Lallana also injured, Jurgen Klopp deployed Lucas as the anchorman and gave Can a more creative role ahead of him.
It’s a position he’s struggled in this season but during the 3-1 win he proved he’s capable of doing it.
He made good forward passes, broke up opposition play and made regular lung-busting runs which stretched our opponents.
This is the kind of level Can needs to maintain if he’s to earn the wage he wants in his proposed new contract…
