Coutinho named LFC Player of the Year by club legends, Sadio Mane ignored

Let’s get one thing straight: we adore Phil Coutinho.

He’s Liverpool’s most talented player and somebody we truly hope stays at the club for years to come.

But this season, has he really been the most impressive performer, considering his lengthy injury and his barren period?

According to Liverpool club legends, who vote for the award, Coutinho has been our Player of the Season, and will be awarded the gong at the Legends Gala Dinner Awards at the Hilton on May 8, reports the Echo.

Our Brazilian magician has bagged four goals in his past four games and is our best hope of Champions League qualification, but Sadio Mane, for us, has been the campaign’s standout performer.

The Senegalese has 13 Premier League goals and five assists to Coutinho’s 10 and six, but tellingly, we’ve only managed to win two league games without the winger all campaign…

His absence during January at the AFCON signalled our downfall, while Coutinho’s form for most of 2017 (until April, really) was very poor.

Either way, it’s not especially important, providing both are at the club, fit and firing at the start of 2017/18.
