Douglas Costa’s best friend speaks about Brazilian’s £26m Liverpool switch

It doesn’t look like Liverpool have any chance of stealing Bayern Munich’s Douglas Costa this summer, sadly.

Recent reports in Germany suggested a £26m transfer was possible, with the 26-year-old out of favour at the Allianz Arena due to the form of Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben in the wide areas.

But Costa’s friend and personal coach Lucas Cruel was damning in his verdict when asked about a potential summer switch…

‘No way!’ Cruel said in an interview with German outlet Sport1, cited in Metro.

‘Douglas will not go to Liverpool, he prefers to stay at Bayern Munich.’

‘It’s a good life here.’

It’s a shame, as Costa is exactly the kind of player we should be targeting. He’s rapid, skilful and would significantly boost our forward line.

What’s more, he knows Coutinho and Roberto Firmino from the national squad, while Lucas (if still here) would obviously help him settle as well.

Costa hasn’t ruled out a move himself yet, but it seems unlikely following Cruel’s cruel comments.

Instead, we may focus out attention on Julian Brandt instead. The young German has less experience, but just as much talent – and could be easier to acquire due to Bayer Leverkusen’s average Bundesliga season.

We’d need to be able to offer Champions League football of course, which is the case with most of our primary targets.
