Lucas Leiva boldly backs himself to start banging in the goals

Lucas Leiva scored an FA Cup header earlier this season, but outrageously, that was his first goal for Liverpool since the 2010/11 campaign!

The story went viral when our Brazilian finally found the back of the net again, which made it seven goals for us during his ten year stint at the club.

Recently Lucas has been starting matches due to a number of injuries and has displayed a creative threat we didn’t think possible.

Our 30-year-old has registered three assists in his past five games, the same number as world’s most expensive player Paul Pogba has managed all season!

But not content with merely racking up assists, Lucas wants to continue scoring himself…

“We have worked a lot on movement in training,” Lucas told the Echo.

“I’m trying to improve and add these things to my game and hopefully next will come goals. I know what the manager wants from me and he wants me to improve on assists, and I think I’ve been doing well on assists, so that’s quite good.”

There’s no word as to whether Lucas will be at the club next season, with the South American keen on playing more regularly now he’s in his thirties.

For us, we’d love him to stay, as his experience and loyalty is vital to the dressing room and there’s few players who set a better example to our youngsters than Lucas.
