Iago Aspas speaks out on THAT famous corner and the new lasting memory he wants to create

Unfortunately for Iago Aspas, only one thing springs to mind when discussing the former Liverpool striker.

A dreadful moment that took place on a truly heart-wrenching day for the club as the Reds fell to a 2-0 defeat at home to Chelsea and subsequently saw their Premier League title chances slip away.

Aspas will turn his attention to fierce rivals of his former employers on Thursday night as he looks to help Celta Vigo overturn their 1-0 deficit in their Europa League semi-final second leg against Manchester United at Old Trafford.

The Spaniard has expressed his desire to win to not only reach a final but to erase memories of his famous corner at Liverpool by eliminating Jose Mourinho’s men.

“The corner is the last memory they have of me but football always gives you another chance. Let’s hope the new lasting memory of me in England is knocking Manchester United out of Europe, for the sake of Celta Vigo, and for the happiness it would bring to Liverpool supporters too,” he told the Daily Mail.

“I know that Liverpool fans want Manchester United to lose just as United fans wanted Liverpool to be beaten by Sevilla in last year’s Europa League final.”

The forward also reflected on his time in England as well as accepting what a difficult task it was to earn a starting place over Liverpool’s dominant striking duo Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge.

“It was a great season for Liverpool… I just wish I could have played a bigger part,” he added.

“Sturridge scored 22 league goals, I think, and Luis 31, so it’s normal that I didn’t get many chances. It didn’t annoy me; I understood that I couldn’t play with them at that level.”

It didn’t work out for Aspas at Anfield but he has since rediscovered his form in La Liga and seen his revival rewarded with a call up to his national side.

All Liverpool fans will unite as Iago Aspas fans on Thursday in the hope he can derail Manchester United’s pursuit of Champions League football.
