Jurgen Klopp sees Coutinho playing centrally as a no.8 from next season onwards, claims respected Liverpool correspondent Tony Barrett for Joe.co.uk.
According to the journalist, Coutinho’s performance against West Ham last Sunday was a window into his long-term Anfield future – with Klopp desperate to add more creativity centrally.

At times this season, the likes of Emre Can, Gini Wijnaldum and co. have looked bereft of ideas against deeper defences and our attack has looked blunt.
By dropping Coutinho further back, we add creative genius to this part of the pitch, but are also able to deploy another attacker up top – whether that be a new winger next season, or a second-striker – with Liverpool using both Sturridge and Origi at the London Stadium.
It was this, as well as Klopp’s sale’s pitch, that convinced our no.10 to renew terms in January. The Brazilian extended his deal to 2022 and will earn £150k/week for the duration. Notably, there’s no release-clause inserted into his deal.
“Stay here, and they will end up building a statue in your honour,” Klopp told Coutinho – according to Barrett.
“Go somewhere else, to Barcelona, to Bayern Munich, to Real Madrid, and you will be just another player. Here you can be something more.”

Despite being injured for months this term, Coutinho has scored 13 goals and registered seven assists. In terms of ability, he could play for anyone in the world. Hopefully, he can fulfil his destiny on Merseyside and not in Spain.
