Unrelenting transfer rumours were undoubtedly a slight annoyance to Jurgen Klopp as he watched his side fight for a top four spot but the Reds boss now has the chance to turn his entire focus towards bolstering his squad this summer.
The German will have the club’s largest ever transfer budget at his disposal as he looks to welcome new arrivals that can help Liverpool mount a serious Premier League title challenge next season.
Certain names continue to pop up time and time again and a selection of supposedly confirmed main targets poses as a good insight into the kind of faces Reds can expect to see at Anfield.
Klopp now looks intent on ensuring business gets done early in order for him to experiment and, in turn, find out his strongest team.
“I wish tomorrow but unfortunately that’s not really likely,” he told Liverpoolfc.com when discussing when he would ideally like new signings to be made.
“The best scenario is that you have them for the start of pre-season but I’m not sure if it will happen this time. It’s different with all different players so we will see.”
“That’s not a big problem because we all know if they are fit and healthy we have a really strong squad and that means we could start with this squad. But that doesn’t mean that I would prefer this, I would love to have them in as soon as possible but we will see.”
Getting new faces through the door as soon as possible would be ideal given the importance of Klopp working out his best system, team and alternative plans in time for Liverpool’s Champions League qualifier and the Premier League restart.
This would thereby set the tone for early departures as well, with a number of Reds looking likely to leave this summer. A desire to act quickly means it might not be too long before the future of Daniel Sturridge becomes clearer.
An interesting summer awaits.
