LFC team news- Reds legends start in exciting lineup for Sydney FC friendly

Liverpool legends, first team regulars and youth prospects are set to team up in the club’s post-season friendly match against Sydney FC on Wednesday morning.

The Reds travelled out to Australia just days after securing a top four spot in the Premier League with a 3-0 win over Middlesbrough on the final day of the season.

Both Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher have been named in an eye-opening starting eleven with fellow former Reds Steve McManaman and Daniel Agger also awaiting a chance to play having joined up with the squad for the special occasion.

It seems likely Gerrard will start alongside Lucas Leiva and Ben Woodburn in a central midfield trio, thereby marking a perfect combination of a true Anfield great, an adopted Scouser and a future Liverpool star. There, too, remains the possibility this could be one of the last times Lucas is seen in a Liverpool shirt with the Brazilian believed to be on his way out of the club this summer. This possibility is somewhat hinted at by the fact he will captain the team.

If Alberto Moreno is to depart in the next few months, it won’t be without having played alongside Jamie Carragher, with both starting in a back four also containing Dejan Lovren and Liverpool starlet Trent Alexander-Arnold. The quartet will play ahead of Loris Karius, who will be looking for a strong pre-season as he strives to win back a starting place.

Daniel Sturridge will lead the line, despite the news that he is a doubt for England’s upcoming World Cup qualifier against Scotland due to a long-term hip problem. He will be supported by U23s captain Harry Wilson, who boasted an impressive 28 goals in all competitions last season, and Roberto Firmino.

An exciting team and a welcomed chance to see Liverpool play again.
