Liverpool’s shock move for Man United starlet moves closer after rival’s Europa League win

There’s a rather odd story in the Mirror this morning…

They’re claiming that because Manchester United won the Europa League Final last night and have qualified for the Champions League, Jose Mourinho will bring in a new, experienced left-back for next season.

As a result, Luke Shaw will be available, with Liverpool among three clubs said to be interested. James Nursey says Spurs and Manchester City are also keen, but we’re not sure if United would offload so readily to one of their rivals…

Shaw has suffered with horrible injuries and has been openly criticised by Mourinho for his lifestyle and poor fitness, but was bought for £27m as a teenager and is very talented.

Liverpool currently have James Milner at left-back, but the veteran Englishman is right-footed and with his backup Alberto Moreno expected to leave, the club will bring in another this summer.

Fulham’s Ryan Sessegnon has been most notably coveted, but he’s just turned 17 and Shaw would represent more obvious immediate competition for Milner.

Our thoughts…?

We’d take this one with a pinch a salt. United are not in the business of strengthening Liverpool and Klopp appears happy with Milner as first-choice, simply wanting a new backup option.
