Red Bull Leipzig’s transfer activity hints at Naby Keita’s future

Red Bull Leipzig’s latest transfer activity should give Liverpool fans hope…

The Bundesliga outfit have agreed to sign central midfielder Konrad Laimer from Red Bull Salzburg, reports Kicker (translated by Metro).

They’ve matched his £7m release-clause and are expected to finalise the signing imminently.

20-year-old Laimer has excelled in Austria and plays in the exact same position as Liverpool’s primary midfield target Naby Keita, who propelled RB Leipzig into the Champions League.

Liverpool are desperate to sign the 22-year-old Guinean, who’ll require a whopping transfer fee after winning a spot in the Bundesliga Team of the Season.

It could well be that Laimer is being signed early in case RB Leipzig lose Keita, although they could also be strengthening their squad ahead of next term’s European campaign.

Liverpool currently have the likes of Jordan Henderson, Emre Can, Gini Wijnaldum, Emre Can and Adam Lallana centrally, while Coutinho proved towards the end of the season he can also do a job here. Marko Grujic and Ovie Ejaria are waiting in the wings too, but Keita would add something different – a midfielder who can thrive defensively and offensively and adapt his game depending on the game situation.

Not only did he score eight goals in the Bundesliga last term, but he led the charts for tackles and interceptions, too.
