Update: Emre Can contract situation as European heavyweights circle

Liverpool are ‘relaxed’ and not worried about losing Emre Can, despite the young German’s contract expiring in 2018, reports the Echo.

The club has been stuck in talks with the 23-year-old for months, but as of yet, no agreement has been reached, with Can thought to be after close to £100k/week.

His performances just after Christmas were so poor that most fans believed this absurd, but Can’s improvement over the final months of the campaign, when he was totally injury-free, was monumental.

Not only did the German look solid and physical in midfield, but he scored the Premier League Goal of the Season with a ridiculous bicycle-kick against Watford that will go down in Liverpool history.

Beaten Champions League finalists Juventus are interested, which should tell us how much of an asset Can is, but Liverpool think an agreement will eventually be reached.

It’s said that Can also wants assurances over his role under Jurgen Klopp, considering Liverpool’s attempts to reinforce the midfield this summer.

Hopefully both parties will find common ground soon, as if Can stays fit and confident, he could be anything he wants to be.
