Fernando Torres on verge of signing with club you’ve probably never heard of

Once the most feared and dangerous striker on the planet, Fernando Torres is leaving Atletico Madrid this summer to join Mexican outfit Queretaro.

ESPN say a deal is almost done, with Torres’s new side ready to pay him a cool $5m a year.

Cruz Azul also showed interest but mega-rich Queretaro are set to snap up the free agent.

Torres has been with Atletico Madrid since 2015, after rejoining his boyhood club following a miserable stint at AC Milan.

Liverpool sold the Spaniard in 2011 for an at the time British record fee of £50m, but since departing Merseyside the forward lost his legs, his confidence and has never been the same player.

We undeniably got his best years, which is part of the reason fans have forgiven him for breaking our hearts six years ago by joining rivals Chelsea.

Now, he’ll always be fondly welcomed back to Anfield, as will Luis Suarez, the man who replaced him pretty quickly as the pinnacle of our attack.
