Kylian Mbappe finally responds to multiple transfer rumours

Monaco’s sensational young striker Kylian Mbappe was coy when asked about his chances of a summer transfer – to any of the clubs linked.

The 18-year-old scored 26 goals for his Ligue 1 club last season, despite only breaking into the side properly at the turn of the year.

He’s now an automatic selection for France’s national squad and has drawn interest from Real Madrid, Arsenal and Liverpool – with mindboggling potential transfer fees of £100m-plus mooted continuously.

“Real Madrid?” Mbappe told Sky Sports following last night’s France/England friendly. “They have been trying to recruit me since I was 14.”

“We’re going to go away with the family and we’ll think about what’s going to happen.

“We have to sort it out, see what happens with the club too, because I’m under contract with a club, I’m not free. We’ll see what’s happening.”

Mbappe’s answer suggests the Spaniards are the favourites for his signature, but in reality – we knew that already.

He’s talented enough to become Cristiano Ronaldo’s heir, and we’d be monumentally surprised if FSG agreed to spend over three times our transfer record on a teenager.

Still… Nice to dream.
