Monaco beat Liverpool to 20-year-old RB target

This is hardly news that will cause Liverpool fans to lose much sleep, but it’s transfer news nonetheless!

At the end of last season, Liverpool were heavily linked with Lyon prodigy Jordy Gaspar, the 20-year-old right-back who’d excelled for their youth sides.

But it turns out Monaco have clinched his signature instead.

The Champions League semi-finalist and Ligue 1 champions have proven over the past few years that they have an extraordinary ability to nurture young talent, so it’s probably a very good move for Gaspar.

Monaco vice-president  Vadim Vasilyev told the club’s official website, translated by talkSPORT: “We are pleased to announce the signing of Jordy Gaspar to AS Monaco.

“He is a young, exciting French prospect recognised for his potential and who will find all the conditions to progress here under the influence of Leonardo Jardim.”

In Trent Alexander-Arnold though, Liverpool have a mighty talented right-back of our own!

The teenager broke into first-team consideration last term and you can be sure he’ll be fighting Nathaniel Clyne tooth and nail over during this summer’s pre-season friendlies for the starting spot.

Clyne’s reliable, but our youngster has more potential and offers more going forward.
