(Video) Daniel Sturridge delivers update on his pre-season fitness training

Daniel Sturridge has taken to Instagram to show Liverpool fans the kind of specialist fitness training he has been doing whilst on holiday in Los Angeles this month.

The striker is working hard long beyond the end of the domestic campaign in order to get himself in peak condition ahead of the new season and one that is incredibly important to him personally.

England’s likely participation in the 2018 FIFA World Cup explains Sturridge’s desire to get himself fit and play plenty of football over the next year in the hope of securing a seat on the plane to Russia.

Sturridge has been training with injury prevention specialist Andy Barr, who was also at hand to outline the purpose of the forward’s specific exercises.

Barr described the Liverpool man’s thoraco-lumbar torsion exercise as “ideal for training the lower abdominals to generate explosive lower body rotation (required for movements such as kicking) without the shearing forces through the hips and lower back.”

Sturridge’s future at Anfield remains uncertain with strong performances in the club’s final two league games against West Ham and Middlesbrough somewhat halting suggestions he was certain to depart in the summer.

Fans were reminded of his place as one of Jurgen Klopp’s elite players and, in turn, reminded of just how frustrating is has been to see a man of his incredible talent continue to pick up injuries.

The fact supporters want him to stay, even if he only plays half a season, highlights just how admired he is on Merseyside.
