New Crystal Palace manager reacts to Sakho rumours

We’re no closer to finding out if Mamadou Sakho will sign for his 2016/17 loan club Crystal Palace.

The Eagles were the favourites for the Frenchman’s signature after he impressed under Sam Allardyce, but since Big Sam’s retirement, any potential transfer has been on hold.

Now, incoming manager Frank De Boer has claimed he does not yet know if Palace will bid for Sakho and that it depends on if his current central defensive options impress him sufficiently.

The Dutchman said, reported in the Echo: “He was certainly impressive and important last season, but we will look at what we need.

“First of all I need to see all the players and get a good opinion on them. I know a lot about the team, but it’s different when a new manager comes in.

“Already I have my opinion, but I need to see them live to see if my opinion changes.”

Liverpool want £30m for the 27-year-old, who has no future under Jurgen Klopp – after our coach grew tired of his poor discipline off the field and effectively froze him out of first-team consideration.

Sakho is actually back at Melwood now training ahead of pre-season, but Klopp’s a man of his word and the fact we’ve been so actively trying to sign Virgil van Dijk proves the boss wants the defender replaced.

Hopefully a prospective buyer will come up with the cash sooner rather than later.
