LFC transfer news: Bid for U20 World Cup winner rejected

Liverpool have interestingly rejected another approach from Newcastle for 20-year-old winger Sheyi Ojo, intimating that Jurgen Klopp sees a place for the youngster in his first-team plans.

The Shields Gazette, Newcastle’s mouthpiece, confirms that when Rafa Benitez asked Klopp to borrow the flyer for the 2017/18 campaign, Liverpool’s boss politely refused.

This is eye-opening, as on the surface, a temporary spell at the Magpies would be seemingly perfect for Ojo’s development, as he’s not going to play many minutes at Liverpool – especially since the arrival of Mo Salah.

With Coutinho, Adam Lallana, Salah, Sadio Mane, Daniel Sturridge, Divock Origi, Roberto Firmino, Ben Woodburn and even Danny Ings ahead of him in the attacking pecking order, on the surface, there’ll be few opportunities for lightning quick Ojo.

But by rejecting the loan deal, Klopp’s showing his faith in the prodigy who’s recently returned from winning the Under-20 World Cup with England.

Last term, Ojo barely got a look-in, but perhaps with European and League Cup football supplementing the Premier League from the outset in 2017/18, Klopp wants numbers in abundance.
