Liverpool are about to test Red Bull Leipzig’s resolve and prove we’re deadly serious about Naby Keita by submitting our opening offer for the Guinean, Paul Joyce of the Times said.

The Bundesliga side have claimed they will not sell, slapping a £70m price-tag on the 22-year-old’s head – but Jurgen Klopp is desperate to sign Keita and won’t give up without a fight.

The hope is that by publicly making an offer, Keita may become unsettled and alert RB Leipzig he wants to leave – which will put us in a position of strength.

The midfielder, who scored eight times and registered seven assists in 2016/17, finishing runner-up in the Bundesliga Player of the Year award, has a £48m release-clause which becomes active next summer – but Klopp wants him now…

With Liverpool having spent £36.9m on Mo Salah last week, it’ll be mighty interesting to see how high we’re prepared to go for Keita.
