Trent Alexander-Arnold has committed his future to Liverpool by signing a bumper five-year deal at his beloved boyhood club.

The defender’s new long-term deal will keep him at Anfield until 2022 and comes just eight months after he signed a contract extension with the Reds.

Liverpool’s efforts to tie him down reiterate just how highly he is regarded on Merseyside, with many expecting the 18-year-old to challenge for a first team spot as soon as next season.

The teenager managed 12 appearances for the first team last season, including a daunting start against Manchester United at Old Trafford, in which he caught the eye with an incredibly composed and assured performance.

His success against Liverpool’s fierce rivals proved to be a continuation of his impressive displays in various cup outings for the Reds.

Besides his pace, athleticism and notably exquisite technique, there is an intelligence and a desire to match, not to mention his admirable mentality.

Hard work comes first for any youngster at the club and he has already moulded into a role model in that respect. To operate with such an humble and determined attitude and to visibly value the opportunities he is given all pose as signs of his capability to fulfil a long-term ambition and captain Liverpool.

He has the potential to go on and hold down a place as a regular starter for years to come and fans can count themselves fortunate that the club has uncovered such a talent.

There’s plenty more to come from a man who was a class above his opponents for the U23s last season.
