Liverpool enquired about the England international earlier this summer, but Arsenal rejected our advances.

Oxlade-Chamberlain became a Klopp target because of his contract situation and a set of attributes our manager admires. These include versatility, pace, dynamism, skill and youth – although the Gunners are equally keen to hold onto these.

If they fail to reach an agreement, we may stand an outside chance in August – but reports are now hinting that both parties want to move in the same direction.

We’re already struggling to advance on Naby Keita or Virgil van Dijk, and some fans are becoming increasingly impatient, with only Mo Salah brought in to boost the first-team so far.
