What happened on Steven Gerrard’s managerial debut…

As managerial debuts go, at any level, Steven Gerrard’s went pretty much perfectly…

Our former skipper is taking charge of the Under-18s this season, with the expectation that he’ll eventually move to the Under-23s and hopefully one day take the first-team helm properly.

But in today’s friendly, his talented side thrashed Burton Albion 7-0 at St George’s Park.

Liam Millar and Rafael Camacho netted two each, while Curtis Jones, Luis Longstaff and a penalty from Adam Lewis sealed the deal.

By all accounts, Gerrard’s taking his role incredibly seriously. He spent his summer holiday planning pre-season training and potential tactics for the campaign ahead, and has already been praised by Jurgen Klopp for his dedication to the role.

In some ways, it’s a shame Klopp joined when he did and not during Gerrard’s prime, as the pair would have surely done brilliant things together as boss and captain.

As it his, Gerrard can learn his trade from one of the best in the business.
