A pre-season friendly away against Wigan Athletic fails to strike fans as the eye-opening and accurate representation of what Mohamed Salah will offer, but it did play stage to an intriguing debut for the Egyptian.

The winger went someway towards fulfilling expectations he will be a perfect fit to Jurgen Klopp’s attacking setup, immediately striking up an understanding with the likes of Roberto Firmino and Philippe Coutinho.

He was gifted the easiest of debut goals on the stroke of half-time after a bright first 45 minutes in a Liverpool shirt, in which time he showcased his incredible pace, implemented Klopp’s desired interchanging and demonstrated how big a threat he can be through the middle.

The intricate link up play and the movement in behind to latch onto Coutinho’s through balls made it seem as though he had been part of Liverpool’s front three for years.

He was an obvious danger cutting in on his left-foot and often played a natural and integral role in Liverpool’s quick counterattacks, reiterating just how suited he is to his new team’s approach.

The early signs are extremely early, but Reds have good reason to believe Klopp has found yet another key contributor.
