Express post ridiculous Virgil van Dijk to Arsenal story

Southampton have slapped a £75m price-tag on Virgil van Dijk [Echo], but Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger reckons he can get the Dutchman for £30m less, according to the Express

Their article suggests the Gunners boss rates van Dijk at £45m, which makes no sense whatsoever considering the repeated reports that Southampton want far more than that for their skipper.

What’s more, Van Dijk is desperate to join Liverpool having been convinced of our project by Jurgen Klopp – and would unlikely sign for one of our rivals this summer anyway.

The centre-back has been earmarked by our manager as key to our summer transfer plans, after a disappointing season defensively in 2016/17.

Hopefully, we’ll eventually agree a deal with reluctant Southampton and line up next term with the powerhouse alongside either Joel Matip or Dejan Lovren – who’ll have to battle it out to play alongside him.

Left-back Andrew Robertson is another likely arrival, and with Trent Alexander-Arnold playing so well, we could almost have an entirely new back-four for 2017/18!
