Defiant Klopp stubborn on Coutinho & reveals ‘good news’ on 2017 transfer window

Jurgen Klopp has reminded Liverpool supporters that Coutinho will not be sold for any amount of money this summer.

He’s also suggested that the fact we’re retaining every player we want to for 2017/18 is an added bonus; and something that should be celebrated like a new signing.

So far, we’ve offloaded Andre Wisdom and are set to sell Lucas, having brought in Mo Salah and Dominic Solanke – waiting patiently to see whether we can finalise deals to sign Naby Keita and Virgil van Dijk.

“Not with only Phil [Coutinho], but it’s a good thing to talk about in the transfer window because the world thinks improving is only about bringing in new players,” Klopp said, reported in the Express.

“Nobody thinks that the players we already have will make the next step, which is also a nice idea.

“We use the transfer window, of course, because it gives us an opportunity, but the main thing I think about is how we can make the next step with the players we had last season.

“The good news is we didn’t lose – and we will not lose – a player we want to keep this summer. That’s the best news actually and then we’ll see who can bring into the squad.

“I expect a lot of progress from the players based on their experiences from the last years.”

Klopp makes a good point on players already at his disposal coming on leaps and bounds…

Daniel Sturridge is fully fit and showed towards the end of last term that when sharp, he’s lethal. Marko Grujic was injured for almost the entirety of last season and will have a point to prove. Jordan Henderson is fully fit, while Trent Alexander-Arnold will be looking to steal Nathaniel Clyne’s right-back spot. Youngsters such as Ben Woodburn and Ovie Ejaria will also want to force themselves into consideration.
