Trio of Naby Keita updates bizarrely conflict… £48m deal hinted

Liverpool’s ongoing pursuit of Naby Keita has taken a frustrating turn with reports now seemingly adopting mixed outlooks on the situation.

The Reds have supposedly so far had two bids rejected for the RB Leipzig midfielder, the first of £57million and the second of £66million.

Both occasions have seen Keita’s employers reaffirm their firm stance towards, stressing that the Guinean is not for sale this summer.

That said, a confidence that a deal remains possible has been fuelled by the belief that Liverpool wouldn’t have made such eye-opening offers without some kind of encouragement.

Reports on Sunday served as an untimely reminder of the uncertainty surrounding what the club will do next.

The confusion kicked off with Sky Sports News claiming Liverpool have now had three bids rejected, contrary to suggestions the club were only considering a third bid at the moment.

This was later followed up by the Telegraph’s Chris Bascombe, who suggested the Reds would now shelve their interest and return next summer when they will be able to activate Keita’s exit clause of £48 million.

Meanwhile, the Liverpool Echo’s James Pearce reported that the club was currently in the process of deciding whether or not to make a third offer.

Though it is incredibly difficult to know what to believe, it is looking increasingly unlikely that the stern Bundesliga side will make a deal possible.

Sporting director Ralf Rangnick has remained unmoved in his approach, insisting the 22-year-old will be going nowhere, while owner Dietrich Mateschitz has also piled on the misery by explaining his club doesn’t need the money.

It’s not looking too good at the moment, but the manner in which this deal continues to change suggests it is well worth keeping one eye on.
