Respected Sky Sports journalist Kaveh Solhekol has spoken to a source close to Virgil van Dijk who expects the player to join Liverpool by the end of the window.
The Dutch centre-back is our no.1 target to fix the leaky defence, but we haven’t made an official approach since we had to apologise for illegally approaching him back in June…

However, the 25-year-old has told Southampton he wants to leave and manager Mauricio Pellegrino has left him out of a touring squad and forced him to train alone.

The Saints would rather hold on to arguably the best centre-back in the top flight, but he has his heart set on a move to Liverpool and they’d be foolish to let an unhappy player stay when there’s a chance to rake in a world-record fee for a defender.
We’re not sure if Naby Keita will arrive, but hopefully we’ll get Van Dijk – who’s arguably more needed – instead.
