Southampton prepare for Van Dijk exit with £12m Hoedt bid

Southampton are on the verge of submitting a £12m bid for Lazio’s Wesley Hoedt, in seemingly positive news for Liverpool fans, reports Simon Jones in the Daily Mail.

The Premier League club are insuring themselves if they cannot convince Virgil van Dijk to reintegrate himself into the squad – with showdown talks set for this week.

The Dutchman has been made to train alone at Southampton’s training base while his team-mates partake in pre-season games in France, but Mauricio Pellegrino’s squad is returning imminently and the Argentine wants his captain to stay.

Van Dijk though has already made his position clear: that he’s unhappy and wants to leave – while Liverpool’s desperation to bring him in before the window closes is well publicised.

Now Naby Keita has become unattainable, this window will be considered a failure unless we secure van Dijk – with centre-back an absolute priority position for improvement.

We’re confident that Southampton won’t be able to change van Dijk’s mind, and once this is realised, Liverpool will submit a very large bid.

(Of course.. we could just save ourselves the ‘middle-man’ and buy 23-year-old Hoedt instead!)
