Southampton have submitted a £15.4m bid for Lazio defender Wesley Hoedt, according to multiple reports, including this one in talkSPORT.
The Dutch defender starred for the Italians last term and it looks like Southampton are making plans for their skipper Virgil van Dijk’s exit.
Van Dijk handed in a transfer request last week which was accompanied with a fiery statement declaring his wish to leave.
So far, neither Chelsea nor Liverpool, the two favourites for his signature, have made an offer – but with two weeks left of the transfer window – they’ll surely be lodged soon.
Saints boss Mauricio Pochettino is only ‘hopeful’ that he can reintegrate the 26-year-old into his squad – and the bid for Hoedt suggests he’s making plans for a season without the centre-back.
Judging by Liverpool’s opening two performances, we need van Dijk very, very badly.
Whether we can capture him before the window closes remains to be seen.
