Bitter Hoffenheim midfielder: Liverpool play bad football

Hoffenheim’s Kerem Demirbay has stoked the fires before tomorrow evening’s Champions League tie at Anfield, with his side 2-1 down from the first leg.

Goals from Trent Alexander-Arnold and James Milner put us in a very good position, although the tie could have gone differently if Simon Mignolet hadn’t saved an early penalty and the Germans had taken some first-half chances.

According to Demirbay, Hoffenheim outplayed us a week ago and reckon they’ll do so again on Wednesday – largely because the play a ‘better’ brand of football.

“We definitely play the better football. We’ll see in the end whether it will be enough,” the midfielder told German publication Bild.

“You have to say honestly that this is a good team. But we’re a good team, too.

“We’re not Liverpool but we can go there with our chests out and play completely freely.

“We’re good enough to survive there and score at least two goals.”

In essence, Demirbay is writing Jurgen Klopp’s team talk for him, which would already have included manager Julian Nagelsmann’s ‘Liverpool played shit,’ dig.

Hoffenheim did impress us, but Joel Matip and Roberto Firmino actually missed sitters which could have made the result much more convincing – so we don’t think there in a position to preach any kind of superiority.

Hopefully we’ll show them who’s boss at Anfield. The fact they’ll have to come out looking for goals should suit our counter-attacking players such as Sadio Mane and Mo Salah.
