What LFC did when they received Barcelona’s farcical deadline threat

Before this transfer window, despite the fact we’ve sold them Javier Mascherano and Luis Suarez, most Liverpool fans liked Barcelona – appreciating the jaw-dropping team Pep Guardiola put together a few years back and the continued mind-boggling brilliance of Lionel Messi.

But now, they’re arguably our most hated foreign club, convincing Coutinho to hand in a transfer request the day before the season started.

Not only did they unsettle and tap up our best player, but they continued to lodge bids after we told them we wouldn’t accept.

Last week, a £118m offer was lodged, but Liverpool rejected it in a matter of minutes – publishing the ridiculous stipulations Barcelona included such as ‘The Ballon d’Or clause’ – meaning we’d only receive the full sum if Coutinho became the world’s best player…

More ridiculously though, they then gave us a Sunday deadline to accept the offer we’d already rejected!

According to James Pearce on the Blood Red podcast, Liverpool completely ignored the threat and Michael Edwards decided it prudent to not even offer the Spaniards a reply!

“It’s true that Barca sent LFC the deadline for Coutinho in an email. I’m told LFC didn’t bother replying to it and just ignored it,” he said.
